Repairing our political system, one district at a time.
Town halls have turned into shouting matches. Local newspapers face major revenue challenges. Social media amplifies the loudest and most extreme voices. Where can Americans turn for productive political conversations that respect different perspectives? And how can our elected representatives really know what voters think about important issues?
Working with our partners at Voice of the People, we’re taking a new approach to political discourse with the Citizen Panel Initiative. Here’s how it works: Voice of People fields a specially designed survey called a policy-making simulation to a representative sample of voters in a congressional district. When participants take the survey, they learn about a particular issue, read arguments for and against basic policy choices, and cast their votes for different policy options. Then they attend an event (online, for the time being) where they discuss the results face-to-face with their member of Congress and ask questions.
